Born and raised in China, Yinghui is a bilingual writer and director with a passion for telling rebellious stories about womanhood, identity, and transformation. Holding an MFA degree in Film Production with Directing Emphasis from Chapman University, Yinghui is honing her craft in visual storytelling as an emerging filmmaker in both narrative film and episodic television.
Yinghui loves telling stories from a cross-cultural perspective which she believes is both personal and universal. Hugely influenced by One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García, Yinghui enjoys incorporating magical realism and surrealism into her storytelling to create a unique and unconventional cinematic experience.
In the past two years, Yinghui’s films have gained nationwide recognition. Her films have been selected in Oscar-qualifying and BAFTA-qualifying film festival LA Shorts for two years in a row. Slobopoly, a web series pilot she directed in 2023, won the Best Comedy Series at the 43rd College Television Awards judged by Television Academy members.
